Medical Laboratory Technician or Technologist


Full-Time Position

Department: Laboratory

Hours: 3rd Shift, 76 hours a pay period, (7 days on, 7 days off schedule option)

Special Training: MLT, MT, CLS or equivalent certification

Description: -Confident and proficient enough to work alone.
-Good phlebotomy skills (will not have a phlebotomist on 3rd shift)
-Perform instrument maintenance, calibration, and quality control on all analyzers on each shift.
-Use techniques specified in procedure manuals for analysis of patient specimens to include urine, blood, sputum, feces and other biological fluids. (No Microbiology performed at this lab)
-Receives written (LIS) or Laboratory requests for routine or STAT orders.
-Performs chemical, serological, hematological and microscopic tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
-Performs transfusion testing, including ABO/RH types and cross-match to ascertain compatibility.
-Performs blood gas testing.
-Reports any special circumstances or critical results to the provider and blood bank to the pathologist.
-Processes and report test (CLIA waived, moderate and high complexity) result in a timely manner.
-Performs clerical functions as needed and any designated functions assigned by the Lab Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Bachelor's degree in business, behavioral science, health care or management; and or 3-5 years of experience in quality improvements methods such as: Six-Sigma, Lean, PDCA (Black Belt or green belt certification is a plus); Quality Improvement and Compliance preferred. Strong written and verbal skills and ability to communicate with a variety of people from diverse cultures, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds. Candidate needs to have skills in advanced Microsoft Excel, data analysis, and interpretation of results. Familiar with electronic medical records (Cerner preferred) and Flexibility to meet organizational needs. Computer skills to draft emails, memos, and reporting and have proficiency in MS Suite: Outlook, Word, and Power Point. BLS, ACLS, and PALS required within 6 months of hire.

Job Summary:With limited supervision and broad general direction, provides for quality improvement initiatives across the entire hospital spectrum. Establishes the annual quality plan based on inputs from every department and ensures their timely reporting of data/metrics. Conducts monthly quality meetings, prepares meeting minutes, and distributes them to the appropriate departments. Conducts reviews of department practices and facilities change practices directed toward meaningful process improvements. Responsible for liaising with Michigan Hospital Association (MHA) for quality programs/initiatives. Conducts training of hospital personnel in quality practices and the use of the Plan/Do/Check/Act model. Facilitates a “shared goal model” within and across settings to achieve coordinated high-quality care that is patient and family-centered. Perform additional duties as directed, including employee-health program.

Certified Surgical Technologist


Full-Time Position

Description: Education: Graduated from an accredited school with a degree/certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist, Maintain current Michigan license as a Certified Surgical Technologist and in good standing, Minimum 1 year experience working in a surgical department or outpatient surgery center, BLS certification

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Organizational skills with an attention to detail

-Monitors and anticipates equipment needs, quickly notifies RN of discrepancies

-Conduct inventory of supplies and restock shelves/cabinets; coordinates resupply with central supply
-Assists in assuring hospital is in compliance with current standards established by HFAP, CMS and other regulatory agencies

-Scrubs, gowns and gloves other surgical team members as required
-Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and medications/solutions needed
-Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed
-Assists in draping sterile field
-Passes instruments, needed supplies to surgeon during procedure
-Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure
-Prepares sterile dressings
-Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization
-Assists in autoclaving and wrapping instruments after sterilization
-Assists other members of the surgical team with terminal cleaning of OR suite between cases and at end of day.  
-Assists in prepping room for the next surgical case

Description: Position: Medical Transcriptionist
Reports to: Manger of Health Information Management
Job Summary: To transcribe dictated reports in an efficient and timely manner while maintaining strict patient confidently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Run reports as necessary to facilitate the day to day operation of the department.
• Maintain confidentiality of all protected health information.
• Transcribe all dictated reports including but limited to: Inpatient, Swing Bed, Observation, ER/Clinic, Consultations and Diagnostic Imaging.
• Amend or make corrections to all transcribed reports as designated by dictator.
• Print transcribed reports to appropriate printer. Clinic Physicians' reports will print in their corresponding office. Reports to be mailed will print in HIM for distribution.
• Timely complete the mandatory educational requirements of the facility.
• Maintain statistical data relevant to transcription and report information to the manager of Health Information Management.
• Work independently and prioritize dictated reports. Resolution of any problem or issues is expected to be attempted by the transcriptionist prior to seeking assistance from manager or other hospital personnel.
• Other work as assigned by Management.
Education, Experience and Other Requirements:
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience; Successful completion of transcription course(s) and medical terminology course or two to three years’ experience in medical transcription, hospital setting preferred.
• Additional Requirements: Excellent telephone and communication skills. Typing speed of 60 wpm. Knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent spelling and grammatical skills. Experience in Microsoft Word and dictation equipment.
• Checking hospital email at least once per work day since primary source of communication
