Medical Laboratory Technician or Technologist


Full-Time Position

Department: Laboratory

Hours: 3rd Shift, 76 hours a pay period, (7 days on, 7 days off schedule option)

Special Training: MLT, MT, CLS or equivalent certification

Description: -Confident and proficient enough to work alone.
-Good phlebotomy skills (will not have a phlebotomist on 3rd shift)
-Perform instrument maintenance, calibration, and quality control on all analyzers on each shift.
-Use techniques specified in procedure manuals for analysis of patient specimens to include urine, blood, sputum, feces and other biological fluids. (No Microbiology performed at this lab)
-Receives written (LIS) or Laboratory requests for routine or STAT orders.
-Performs chemical, serological, hematological and microscopic tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
-Performs transfusion testing, including ABO/RH types and cross-match to ascertain compatibility.
-Performs blood gas testing.
-Reports any special circumstances or critical results to the provider and blood bank to the pathologist.
-Processes and report test (CLIA waived, moderate and high complexity) result in a timely manner.
-Performs clerical functions as needed and any designated functions assigned by the Lab Manager.

Discharge Planner/ Utilization Management Coordinator


Full-Time Position

Department: Nursing

Special Training: Diploma Graduate, Associates Degree, or BSN in Nursing, Current Michigan License as a Registered Nurse

Description: Effective interpersonal communications skills, ability to manage and organize multiple tasks, positive attitude among fellow associates and customers alike, flexibility with changing tasks and excellent problem solving skills. Knowledge of InterQual criteria, medical terminology and legal issues involving the patient record, Must have an understanding of ICD - l O and CPT/4 coding, HFAP and HIPAA requirements and state and federal regulations in regards to medical records and coding issues

Initiate the review process, within one working day, of patient admission. Determines the medical necessity and appropriateness of admission using the SI/IS criteria. (InterQual)

Develop a Clinical Documentation Improvement Program for Sheridan Community Hospital.
Review medical records to facilitate the accurate representation of the severity of illness
Demonstrates professional responsibility in the role of Discharge Planner.

Other Skills:
3 to 5 years clinical RN experience minimum.
Utilization management, Clinical Documentation Improvement and Discharge Planning preferred
ICD 10/CPT 4 Coding knowledge preferred.

Special Training: Facility/Medical billing experience required

Description: Good written and verbal communication skills, comfortable dealing with large amounts of data quickly and efficiently, detailed-oriented and precise, able to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a tactful and discreet manner
Be able to meet the physical and mental requirements of this position
Be able to work efficiently with Word and Excel programs
Knowledge of Critical Access Hospital and RHC Clinic billing regulations preferred but not required
Accept cash into appropriate General Ledger Accounts, prepare bank deposit, post cash, reconciliation of general ledger accounts, actual cash and adjustment postings
Maintain Logs
Answer telephone
Work Credit Balance Report for self-pay refunds and transfer of self-pay credits
Post adjustments, discounts, and bad debt write offs
Maintain confidentiality of all patient information
Work closely with the Auditors

EDUCATION:

High school graduate, preferred completion of billing/coding certificate program/associate's degree
Knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred 3 to 4 years facility/Medical billing experience
Preferred Post-secondary Education in Business, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience
