Services - Sheridan Community Hospital

Save time and money...
Just imagine the time, money and energy saved for those who might need lab work, diagnostic studies, physical therapy, and more, by having it arranged through their doctor's office, to stop by here in place of traveling a greater distance. It just makes good sense.

Cardiopulmonary Services

Cardiopulmonary Services

Offers a wide range of cardiac and respiratory services on an inpatient and outpatient basis including: EKGs, EEGs, pulmonary function studies, arterial and venous doppler studies, 24-hour holter and 30 day cardiac monitoring, stress testing, and echocardiograms. The professional staff consists of respiratory therapists, EMTs and registered cardiac sonographers. Specialists in cardiology and peripheral vascular services also see patients in this location.

Community Education

Community Education Photo

Community education seminars and workshops are generally provided free of charge throughout the year on a variety of health-related topics. Physicians and other SCH healthcare professionals discuss the latest research and advances in treatments. Outside facilitators are also invited to talk about such things as stress management, massage therapy, gardening, etc. Free and low-cost health screenings at the Family Health Fair is in June. Most workshops and screenings are held in the hospital’s conference room, entering through the northwest corner entrance.

Diagnostic Imaging

The diagnostic imaging department provides diagnostic radiographic examinations, as well as high-resolution real-time ultrasound examinations, mammograms, venous doppler studies, CT scanning (64-Slice), and bone density testing. SCH is staffed with ARRT-registered technologists with a board-certified radiologist on-site five days a week, for coverage 24 hours, 7 days a week through the department's teleradiology service.

  • CT ScannerComputerized Tomography (64-Slice CT Scanner)
Our diagnostic imaging department offers testing through the use of a 64-slice Toshiba CT scanner. This state-of-the-art scanner (housed in a suite inside the diagnostic imaging department) can quickly scan any region of the body in just seconds. It is designed to offer physicians greater diagnostic capabilities by helping patients to avoid more invasive medical procedures. This multi-slice technology captures precise images of the body’s rapidly moving organs like the heart and lungs, which appear blurry when scanned by a traditional CT. Multi-slice imaging is also useful for examining patients who are unable to hold their breath, like trauma victims, acutely ill patients and young children. For trauma patients like auto accident victims, this may prove to be lifesaving technology due to the system’s ability to deliver precise images of bones, organs and internal bleeding than older, less advanced CT systems. For patients with blood clots, infections, and diseases like cancer, early diagnosis may result in faster treatment. This service is available 24/7 and the staff can generally get you in within 48 hours of referral.
  • Picture Archiving & Communication Systems (PACS)
PACS allows images and scans like x-ray, ultrasound, and CT to be stored electronically and viewed on computer monitors as opposed to films on a light box. This digital imaging allows for faster delivery and higher quality of medical images, more flexible viewing with the ability to manipulate images on screen, instant access to previous images and patient records. SCH physicians can view images from multiple computers around the hospital or in their office.
  • Mammography Mammography Photo
SCH's mammography unit is ACR accredited. Patient comfort and convenience are emphasized. Our professional female staff will make you feel right at home and you will take home a complimentary gift of some really nice chocolates.
  • Ultrasound
With the addition of this new and improved unit, our diagnostic imaging department can offer additional services like venous doppler studies, carotid ultrasound and OB exams. These studies can be scheduled several days a week by calling the department at 989-291-6336.

Volunteer Services

Volunteer Services Photo

This program has been a mainstay at SCH since 1994. Our volunteers are people who make a difference because of the role they play in meeting patients' needs or providing essential services and lending support to our hospital community. At SCH, they include men, women, teens, senior citizens, and individuals of all races, ethnic background, education level, and abilities.

Many outreach service efforts (including the marketing of Lifeline, personal help buttons) are the work of the hospital's volunteers. They are also responsible for keeping the two gift cases, located inside the front lobby and physician specialists' waiting room, up to date and ready for shopping purchases. As part of the healthcare team, the SCH volunteers support and broaden staff efforts to meet the hospital's goal of providing homelike, personal care.

There are many areas in which volunteer help is needed and scheduling is very flexible. Certain internship, externship, school-to-work, and job shadow opportunities are also available through the volunteer services department. For more information about volunteer opportunities at Sheridan Community Hospital, please call Lois Westfall, community relations, at 989-291-6236.
